When the Free Meets the Fixed

The butterfly in the picture below had decided to take a break from its flight and rest on the sunflower. A pretty sight, no doubt, and also with some nice irony.

Butterflies have the freedom to fly where ever they choose, very lucky creatures indeed. Like other creatures of flight, they can see the world from above and can navigate obstacles much easier than the grounded organisms. However, butterflies cannot stay in the air for so long, as they would tire out.

So to relax their wings, butterflies eventually land somewhere on the ground to relax their wings. This particular butterfly landed on a creature which possesses much less freedom of movement than any flying and non-flying animal: A sunflower.

What makes this sight beautiful is the fact that a creature with freedom of flight decided to land on a flower, a creature that cannot move beyond the soil beneath. I consider this to be one of the most wonderful messages nature has to offer to us.

I interpret the message this way: No matter how much freedom you have, it is always a good idea to take notice of and communicate with those whom have less freedom. And even after you end your interaction with the less free and need to leave them, the less free will still shine bright just for the fact that you took the time to notice them in this increasingly fast paced world.
